During the last court session, Lawyer Faisal Al-Qattan, the counsel to Fatwa and Legislation Department, insisted on reopening the investigation, and Lawyer Dr. Fayez Al-Thufairi stood in for the respondents.
The government counsel presented a huge number of documents concerning the agreements, stating that the officials erred in sealing the ‘Dow’ deal which cost the country $2.2 billion, and demanded holding them accountable according to the law.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Court is preparing for the 17th sitting in the ‘Ministry of Interior Hospitality’ case filed against 24 officials of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance, who were accused of forgery, dereliction of duty, misappropriation of public fund, and money laundering.
The court, presided over by Judge Mut’eb Al-Ardhi, adjourned the case to Sunday, Dec 8 to invite some witnesses for cross examination by the defendants’ counsel.
Jail sentence cut: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Nasser Salem Al-Heed has overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance in the case known as ‘Shuwaikh brawl’ filed against a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of attempting to murder an Egyptian expatriate in Shuwaikh Industrial Area.
The lower court had sentenced the citizen to 17-year imprisonment but the appellate court reduced the sentence to four-year imprisonment with hard labor, and acquitted the Egyptian expatriate ‘Waheed’ of charges of insulting and attacking the defendant.
The incident, a video clip of which went viral at the time, showed the citizen assaulting the Egyptian. The latter later filed a case (No. 481/2017) against his assailant at Shuwaikh Industrial Police Station
