Staff working at restaurants, cafes, food facilities, stands and warehouses in Kuwait must wear medical face masks and gloves, according to a new directive from the state’s Public Authority and Nurtition.

Anyone flouting the new regulations will be subject to legal action.

The authority said in a statement that managers of facilities must secure all the necessary sanitation materials for workers and customers and carry out stringent inspections on cleanliness.

It said:

“Government inspection teams will check these facilities to ensure that the necessary hygiene measure are in place and examine health certificates, as part of the extraordinary precautions against coronavirus.”

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kuwait reached 46 on Sunday afternoon, with a further positive diagnosis of a patient who had been in Iran. The Islamic Republic is at the heart of the outbreak in the Middle East, with 978 cases in total, 385 new cases announced on Sunday and a total of 54 deaths.

Health Ministry assistant undersecretary, Dr. Buthaina Al-Mudhaf, told a daily briefing that all cases “are in a stable condition and recovering”.
