A senior government source confirmed that Kuwait is committed to resolving the Gulf dispute, Al Qabas reported. The source pointed out that communication is currently underway in the hopes of finding new ways to reach reconciliation.

The source added there is Kuwaiti, Gulf and American keenness to contain the dispute, in order to work towards regional economic changes and preserving the Gulf entity.

With a sense of optimism, the source said, “We have hopes for a new chapter to solve the Gulf dispute and enter a breakthrough for all parties.”

Kuwait role in Gulf dispute

Since the Gulf crisis began, the late Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, established Kuwait as the key mediator between the two sides.

The late Emir’s efforts to act as mediator were applauded by the United States and France. Kuwait, which has retained ties with Qatar and has often acted as a mediator in regional disputes, has maintained that it wants to resolve the dispute “within the unified Gulf house”.

Last month, Kuwait’s newly appointed Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah, sent a message to Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz discussing variety of issues, one of which is the 2017 Gulf crisis.

Following the late Emir’s footsteps and regional policy, Prime Minister, Sabah Al Khaled Al Sabah, stated that Kuwait will continue its effort to mediate between Qatar and its Gulf neighbours.
