Kuwait donates one million USD to orphans in Kurdistan Region :

The government of Kuwait on Monday donated one million US dollars to sponsor nearly 4,000 orphans in the Kurdistan Region.

In a ceremony held in Erbil on Oct. 31 attended by Kuwaiti diplomats and the representative of the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), the financial assistance for the orphans was officially handed over to the BCF.

“Kuwait is eager to support and help the orphans in the Kurdistan Region as it has sponsored 4,000 orphans, all of whom are living in the Kurdistan Region,” Omar al-Kandari, the Kuwaiti Council General in Erbil, said in a press conference on Monday.

Based on the Orphan Care project which is implemented in cooperation with the BCF, the 4,000 orphans would each receive an allowance of 50 USD every month for an initial five months subject to extension, Kandari explained.

Additionally, the Council General thanked the BCF for its reliability and dedication for humanitarian causes.

Moreover, Kandari also revealed his country’s plans in Kurdistan which include expanding the contribution of the state of Kuwait.

According to Kandari, a further contribution from Kuwait would include assistance in fields such as education, health, and shelter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as the host community.

Musa Ahmed, the BCF president, said Kuwait’s sponsoring of another 4,000 orphans sets the total number of children who benefit from the BCF’s Orphan Care project at a staggering 17,709 individuals.

“Kuwait’s contribution is added to great donations from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and private donors from the Kurdistan Region,” Ahmed concluded.
