Kuwait has extended the holiday for public and private sector workers until May 28.

The closure of state organisations, which was ordered to contain the spread of coronavirus, was supposed to end on April 25 and work resume the following day.

However, the government has now announced that this will be extended, according to a report by state news agency KUNA.

Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Anas Al-Saleh, said: “The public and private sectors’ holiday will be extended from April 26 until May 28, and work will resume on Sunday, May 31.”

The Cabinet also extended the curfew hours across the country from 4pm until 8am, although restaurants and food stores are allowed to make home deliveries from 5pm to 1am.

The Ministries of Interior and Information have been allowed to name and shame people who violate home curfew and quarantine in media, newspapers and social media.

The government has also assigned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its affiliate companies to prepare quarantine facilities in North Ritqa and South KIPC to be used as soon as possible by the Ministry of Health.

Kuwait has reported 1,995 cases of coronavirus and nine deaths so far.
