Kuwait has imported 3.6 million face masks as the country desperately tries to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Kuwait Supplies Company will be tasked with distributing the masks at supply centres across the country.

The masks were delivered by planes from the Ministry of Defence under direct orders from Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

To date there are 56 confirmed coronavirus cases in Kuwait.

On Monday Kuwait banned all types of visas for all nationalities looking to enter the country as officials look to contain the current coronavirus outbreak.

Only foreigners who hold legal residencies are allowed to enter, except those who have visited infected countries.

Kuwait has already cut all transport links to Iran and several other countries, while GCC citizens can no longer use their respective IDs to travel between Gulf countries and must have passports.
