Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior said it will not tolerate violation of public decency and morality, vowing to punish Kuwaiti and expatriate celebrities who publish indecent pictures or videos through social media platforms, local media reported.

The statement issued by the ministry’s Public Ethics and Cybercrime Department follows the arrest of an Iranian fashionista for publishing indecent pictures on social media. The ministry will deport her in 72 hours.

Quoting a reliable security source, Al Anba Arabic daily said the Iranian woman had no explanation to justify the publication of the indecent material, including clips and pictures on her account.

Authorities also arrested a Kuwaiti Fashionista and her husband after she posted a clip on the social media, saying the clip contains unacceptable overtones, contrary to public decency and morals.

The ministry emphasised that the department continues to monitor and follow up on any issues that violate public morals on social media and will not tolerate anyone who misuses social media platforms.

The Arabic paper said authorities issued clear instructions to immediately deport expatriates who violate the decency code to their respective countries. Also, their names will be added to the list of persons barred from entering the country.

Kuwaiti celebrities found violating the country’s decency code will be summoned and warned and asked to sign a pledge of good conduct – otherwise they will be referred to the Public Prosecution.

The source said summons will be issued for blatantly unacceptable transgression and deliberate violation of customs, traditions and rules of modesty without any justification, reiterating that freedoms are guaranteed, but not through disruptive behaviour and publishing inappropriate or shameful pictures.

The Criminal Security department has a list of personalities who recently published indecent material on social media platforms. These will be examined and action will be taken.

Three days ago, Kuwaiti authorities deported Lebanese TV presenter Sazdel for posting online video clips and pictures of hers seen as violating public morals.
