Due to the absence of coordination between the National Assembly and the government regarding the request for a special session to discuss the General Pardon Bill, the latter has informed Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al- Ghanim that it will not attend the session; thus, the session was canceled because the attendance of the government is mandatory.

In a related development, MP Khalaf Dumaitheer announced that he too will not attend the session because he supports the special pardon which requires the issuance of an Amiri decree.

He considers the request for this special session a way of dodging accountability.

Furthermore, Al-Ghanim disclosed the Assembly Office recently discussed the agenda of the remaining sessions in the current legislative term.

He disclosed there is only one session remaining in the Holy Month of Ramadan and it will take place next Tuesday; followed by at least six sessions to discuss governmental budgets and final accounts in June, as well as other sessions to tackle a number of important bills that the parliamentary committees are currently preparing.

Asked about the recent developments in the region, the speaker asserted the current situation in the region directly affects the country; putting more responsibilities on the shoulders of the Assembly as such situation is considered a threat to national security and stability.

He revealed several MPs have submitted a request to allocate two hours of the upcoming session to deliberate on the regional situation, confirming that the executive and legislative authorities are coordinating in this regard while hinting on the possibility of discussing the issue behind closed doors
