Kuwaiti operator Zain Kuwait has announced that it is deploying the full traffic management suite from Enea, a supplier of software components for telecommunications and cybersecurity, to amplify its 4G and 5G network deployments.
As Enea points out, a major reason for the deployment is to support the country’s increasing appetite for mobile technology. Mobile penetration at 168 percent is among the highest in the world. There are seven million mobile subscriptions in a country of just over four million people.

Zain Kuwait in particular has an extremely high mobile data consumption per SIM, driven in large part by users sharing and streaming mobile videos.
With such high usage, quality of experience (QoE) – such as wait times and video quality – could become an issue, which is why Zain Kuwait is using the Enea Openwave Encrypted Video Manager. This enables transparent classification of encrypted video flows to balance picture and playback video quality in real time according to radio network conditions.
Additionally, the solution features the Enea Openwave TCP Accelerator to maximize download speeds for both 4G and 5G, and Enea’s Traffic Classifier to augment application and encrypted content classification.
A Zain spokesperson says:
“This solution enables us to optimize video streaming and deliver the highest in-country download speeds, regardless of whether the content is encrypted.”
